Justin Trudeau accused of brazen attempt to gloss over ‘brownface’ race storm with pic of him smiling at black person

JUSTIN Trudeau has been accused of trying to gloss over his “brownface” race storm with a photo of himself smiling at a black person.

The Canadian Prime Minister – who is fighting for political survival – uploaded the image as his Twitter profile after his race shame backlash.

He’s been plagued by controversy after shocking photos showing the right-on politician wearing dark face and body paint emerged last week.

The snaps – from events in the 1990s up to as recently as 2001 – caused outrage and prompted Trudeau to make a grovelling apology.

The Canadian PM, famed for his ultra-political correctness, was branded a “racist hypocrite” over the images taken at fancy dress dos.

Confessing to a “massive blind spot” in his thinking, Trudeau said he was “deeply sorry” – adding: “It was a dumb thing to do.”

PR STUNT

But in another apparent gaffe, the Liberal leader has changed his Twitter profile picture to show him smiling at a black person.

The move has been branded a brazen PR stunt as he seeks to win back momentum during an election campaign damaged by the race row.

One user wrote: “’Some of my best friends are black’, Trudeau now has an avatar of him talking to a black person.

“I kind of feel sorry for him. He is just absurd.”

Another added: “Was it a mistake by @JustinTrudeau to change his profile picture to a shot of him smiling at a black man?

“Is it a demonstration that he’s left his racist past behind, or is his use of people of colour as political props evidence that he hasn’t changed very much?”

SHOCKING IMAGES

Footage published by Global News last week showed Trudeau wearing dark make-up on his face and arms while he stuck his tongue out.

The video is believed to have been captured in the early 1990s – although it’s not clear where it was filmed.

But this was not a one-off for the holier-than-thou politician – who is known for calling others out for alleged racism.

The PM, who champions diversity and multiculturalism, was pictured dressed up as a black man at the Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf, an elite high school in Quebec, which he attended.

He donned an Afro wig to perform his version of the Banana Boat Song (Day-O) – a song about people in Jamaica loading bananas onto boats – in a talent show.

This picture is understood to have also been taken in the 1990s.

DRESSED ‘AS ALADDIN’

In the first image that came to light, Trudeau can be seen sporting a turban and robes at the Arabian Nights themed party at the West Point Grey Academy in Vancouver.

That photo was taken in 2001 when Trudeau was a 29-year-old teacher at the private school, according to Time magazine.

Trudeau confirmed he was dressed as a character from Aladdin and said he had his arm around a “close friend”.

Conservative leader Andrew Scheer, who is mounting a serious challenge to the prime minister in the October 21 vote, reacted by declaring Trudeau “not fit to govern this country.”

Maxime Bernier, the leader of the People’s Party of Canada, slammed Trudeau as the “biggest hypocrite in the country”.

He said: “I’m not going to accuse Justin Trudeau of being a racist.

“But he’s the master of identity politics and the Libs just spent months accusing everyone of being white supremacists.”
